The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for bringing back the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the state.
The party’s spokesperson, Mr Seye Oladejo, said in a statement issued on Monday that the move reflects a proactive effort by the state government to promote public health and environmental cleanliness.
According to Oladejo, the initiative demonstrates responsible leadership aimed at encouraging residents to participate actively in keeping their communities clean and safe.
He noted that Lagos, regarded as one of Africa’s fastest-growing megacities, requires sustained collective efforts from government and citizens to maintain environmental sustainability.
Oladejo explained that the revival of the sanitation exercise shows the administration’s commitment to maintaining high standards in environmental management while urging residents to take responsibility for the upkeep of their surroundings.
He added that for many years the sanitation programme played an important role in promoting a culture of cleanliness and civic responsibility among residents.
The APC spokesman said the return of the exercise would help tackle sanitation-related challenges while also increasing public awareness about proper waste disposal, drainage maintenance and environmental hygiene.
Oladejo described the initiative as another important step by the government to strengthen preventive public health measures, minimise environmental risks and protect communities from sanitation-related problems.
He therefore encouraged residents, community development associations, market groups, youth organisations and civil society groups to fully support the programme.
According to him, environmental protection is a collective responsibility, and the success of the sanitation exercise will depend largely on the cooperation and active participation of Lagos residents.
Oladejo expressed confidence that the policy would further support the ongoing transformation of Lagos into a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable city.
He also praised the state government for prioritising policies that enhance the well-being of residents.
Governor Sanwo-Olu had earlier officially announced the return of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise on Saturday, stating that it would begin in April.
He explained that the sanitation activity would hold on the last Saturday of every month between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
