The Convener of the Arewa Political Awareness Movement (APAM), Mr. Jabir Usman, has called on Nigerians, particularly youths in the North, to embrace civic responsibility and informed political participation as key drivers of democracy and national unity.
Usman made the call on Wednesday in Kaduna during a Public Sensitisation Programme on Key Government Policies and Reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He said the gathering reflected a collective commitment to civic duty, national cohesion and the future of Nigeria, adding that the programme was designed to promote factual information and constructive engagement among citizens.
According to him, APAM is a grassroots political education platform committed to strengthening democracy by encouraging citizens to be informed, conscious and actively involved in governance rather than being influenced by misinformation and division.
Assessing the performance of the Tinubu administration, Usman stressed that leadership should be evaluated based on tangible outcomes, not propaganda or rhetoric.
“Leadership must be measured by impact and results,” he said.
He highlighted reforms in the education sector, including the establishment of the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which he described as a major intervention aimed at ensuring that financial challenges no longer prevent access to higher education.
Usman also cited improved welfare packages for retired professors and the establishment of new federal universities as part of ongoing reforms in the sector.
He further noted progress in youth empowerment, healthcare, agriculture and security, pointing to initiatives such as the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, the reintroduction of NEMSAS, and coordinated security operations, which he said were already yielding positive results nationwide.
The APAM convener urged citizens to hold leaders accountable at all levels of government, emphasizing that state governments must effectively utilize available resources to deliver meaningful development to their people.
He reaffirmed APAM’s commitment to sustained public enlightenment and civic education.
The programme featured paper presentations from representatives of security agencies, academia, women groups, youth associations, civil society organisations and government officials.
