Debutant Rahmon Ali produced a stunning performance on Sunday, smashing 64 runs off 36 balls to lead Nigeria to a dominant nine-wicket victory over Sierra Leone at the West Africa Trophy in Abuja.
Playing at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Nigeria won the toss and elected to field, a decision that paid off as the bowling unit delivered a disciplined display. Sierra Leone was restricted to 95 all out in 18.5 overs, struggling against Nigeria’s tight lines and controlled pace.
In response, Nigeria chased down the target with ease, finishing on 98/1 in 11.1 overs. Ali’s explosive innings set the tone, while captain Sulaimon Runsewe anchored the chase with an unbeaten 21 off 30 balls.
The victory gives Nigeria four wins from four matches, cementing their position at the top of the group with eight points.
Nigeria will face Rwanda on Monday as they look to maintain their unbeaten run in the tournament.
