Mr Olumuyiwa Adu, Sponsor of Adu Unity Cup, a grassroots football tournament in Akure, says exceptional talents discovered during the competition would be promoted to the global stage.
Adu said this while receiving the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the tournament’s third edition, led by the Chairman, Raymond Abdulsalam, on Sunday in Akure.
The sponsor commended the organisers for the successes of the two previous editions, saying the football competition had come to stay.
“There’s no reason to stop. The foundation of this competition has been strongly laid on solid ground, which is why it’s sustainable.
“Some talented players were discovered during the first two editions. People may not know their names now, but soon, the world will, ” he said.
Adu said that the initiative was like complementing government’s efforts in youth engagement and empowerment.
“It’s a known fact that government cannot do it alone.
“The football competition is one of the ways I support youth development, especially for those who are talented and deserve global recognition,” he said.
Also, the LOC chairman commended Adu’s consistency and passion, assuring that the 2025 edition would witness significant improvements in prize money, individual awards, officiating, and overall organisation.
According to him, the third edition of the Adu Unity Football Competition is scheduled to kick-off next month in Akure, with 18 teams from across the state set to participate.
