The Police Command in Ondo State has arrested a 32-year-old man, Osita James, over the alleged sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl in Ile-Oluji, Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Akure, saying the suspect was arrested on Feb. 5 following a report lodged by a resident, Uchena.
According to Jimoh, the suspect was caught in the act at about 4:00 p.m. in the Asio area of Ile-Oluji town.
Upon receiving the report, the police promptly rescued the victim and took her for medical examination, while the suspect was immediately apprehended and taken into custody.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly committed similar acts against the victim on several occasions before the incident. The suspect reportedly made useful statements during interrogation.
Jimoh added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The spokesperson said the arrest aligned with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, which prioritises gender-sensitive policing and strengthened responses to sexual and gender-based violence.
He noted that the Ondo State Police Command remained committed to protecting vulnerable persons, building public trust, and ensuring community safety.
Jimoh commended members of the public for their timely report and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to the police to enable swift intervention.
“Together, we can build a safer society for our children and future generations,” he said.
