President Bola Tinubu has ordered the deployment of an Army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a terrorist attack on Worro community.
The president said the battalion would lead Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at flushing out terrorists and protecting vulnerable communities in the area.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by his spokesman, Mr Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu strongly condemned the attack, describing it as cowardly and barbaric, and vowed that the perpetrators would be hunted down and brought to justice.
He expressed outrage that the attackers killed residents who resisted their attempts at indoctrination, choosing instead to practise a form of Islam rooted in peace and moderation.
“It is commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a strange belief that promotes violence over peace and dialogue,” the president said.
Tinubu directed relevant federal and state agencies to work together to provide relief for the affected community and ensure that those responsible do not evade justice.
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and condoled with the bereaved families, as well as the people and government of Kwara State.
