The ongoing strike by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), which began on Nov. 26, 2025, has brought legislative activities at the Katsina State House of Assembly to a standstill.
The parliamentary staff embarked on the nationwide strike over the non-implementation of the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS) by some state governments.
The PASAN Chairman at the Katsina State House of Assembly, Idris Abdulmuminu-Suleiman, disclosed this in an interview in Katsina on Monday.
He explained that despite several promises from the state government, parliamentary workers were yet to benefit from the salary structure.
Abdulmuminu-Suleiman recalled that in October 2023, parliamentary staff had also embarked on a strike over the non-implementation of CONLESS, lack of financial autonomy and failure to review conditions of service.
According to him, no legislative activities have taken place since the commencement of the current strike.
“As you can see, even the lawmakers were not allowed to come in because we have placed our members at the entrance,” he said.
He added that the union had engaged the leadership and management of the assembly on the matter.
“The leadership has assured us that our demands have been captured in the 2026 budget,” Abdulmuminu-Suleiman disclosed.
