Nigeria’s Super Eagles were handed a measured fitness lift on Monday after captain Wilfred Ndidi showed signs of recovery from the hamstring issue he picked up during the AFCON 2025 quarter-final encounter.
Super Eagles Media Officer, Promise Efoghe, said initial observations around Ndidi’s condition were positive, though the situation would continue to be closely monitored by the medical team.
Efoghe explained that Ndidi was now able to walk comfortably without discomfort, describing it as an encouraging development for the squad.
He added that further assessment would be conducted in the coming days to determine whether a scan would be required, noting that early indications suggested the injury might not be severe.
Despite the improvement, Efoghe confirmed that Ndidi will not feature in Nigeria’s semi-final showdown against hosts Morocco, having accumulated yellow cards in the Round of 16 and quarter-final matches.
According to him, the priority remains ensuring the midfielder makes a full recovery and is available for the later stages of the competition.
Efoghe also gave an update on defender Ryan Alebiosu, revealing that the player has continued to respond positively to treatment.
He noted that both the technical and medical teams are keeping a close watch on Alebiosu’s progress as he works his way back to full fitness.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles returned to their Fès base on Sunday afternoon following their 2-0 victory over Algeria in Marrakech.
The team later held a recovery session at the Saardienne Football Complex as preparations intensified for the upcoming semi-final.
Efoghe described the atmosphere in camp as upbeat, adding that player recovery has remained the main focus ahead of what promises to be a demanding fixture.
Nigeria’s win over Algeria has set up a high-stakes last-four clash against Morocco in Rabat, where the hosts are aiming to extend their impressive home run and edge closer to ending a decades-long wait for continental glory.
