COAS Shaibu Condoles Bayelsa Government, Commends Troop Support Initiatives

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has commiserated with the Bayelsa State Government over the death of Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away on Dec. 12, 2025.

Shaibu described the loss as painful and called for prayers for the repose of his soul, urging support for the bereaved family during a courtesy visit to Gov. Douye Diri in Yenagoa on Thursday.

The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, said the visit was part of the COAS’ maiden operational tour of the 6 Division Area of Responsibility. Shaibu also commended the state government for its consistent support to Nigerian Army formations, particularly 16 Brigade, emphasizing that collaboration enhances troop welfare and operational effectiveness.

He specifically praised Gov. Diri for constructing and donating nine three-bedroom senior non-commissioned officers’ apartments and two blocks of nine two-bedroom NCO apartments, noting the facilities would ease accommodation challenges and boost morale.

Noting visible infrastructural improvements across Bayelsa since his last visit five years ago, Shaibu assured the governor of the Army’s continued partnership in maintaining peace and security.

In response, Gov. Diri thanked the COAS for the visit, reaffirmed his administration’s support for the armed forces, and formally handed over the completed accommodation facilities to the Nigerian Army, pledging continued support to enhance troop welfare in the state.
