The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of veteran photojournalist Malam Umar Usman.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday that an investigation has been launched to secure the safe release of the journalist.
Hassan said Usman was abducted around 9:00 pm on Monday in Danhonu II community, Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area, causing renewed fear among residents.
Usman, a retired staff of Africa Independent Television (AIT), Kaduna, and formerly with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Kaduna, was taken from his residence.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Rabiu Muhammad, has deployed a team of operatives to track down the abductors and ensure Usman is rescued unharmed.
DSP Hassan appealed to residents to provide any useful information that could aid in the journalist’s safe recovery.
