The Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA) on Sunday held its annual Christmas Carol and Night of Nine Lessons with a call for unity, deeper reflection and prayers for naval personnel serving in frontline operations.
In her welcome remarks, NOWA National President, Hajiya Aisha Abbas, said the event was organised to celebrate God’s faithfulness and strengthen fellowship among naval families.
She said the theme of the celebration, “Glory to God in the Highest,” underscores the season’s message of peace, hope and goodwill.
“This evening reminds us to stand together as one family, to strengthen our bond of service, and to remember those who ensure our nation sleeps in peace,” she said.
Abbas expressed appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Idi Abbas, for his continuous support to NOWA, reaffirming the association’s commitment to humanitarian outreach, empowerment programmes and the welfare of naval families.
In her remarks, the Special Guest of Honour and former NOWA National President, Mrs Theresa Ibas, said the carol service was a reminder of God’s boundless love and a moment to renew commitment to peace on earth.
She urged prayers for personnel who had paid the supreme price and for those currently deployed in difficult operational theatres, as well as their families spending Christmas apart.
“May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, keep their hearts and strengthen their spirits,” she said.
Ibas commended NOWA for its nationwide empowerment initiatives, including skills acquisition, medical outreach programmes and support for widows and orphans, describing them as expressions of “love made visible.”
She also applauded the support of the Chief of the Naval Staff, adding that the resilience of officers’ wives remains a strong pillar for naval personnel committed to securing the nation’s maritime environment.
The evening featured scripture readings, hymns, presentations and special musical performances by NOWA members from various naval units and formations.
The carol service is one of the activities marking NOWA’s 60th anniversary, celebrated earlier on Friday with a commemorative dinner and award night.
