Chief of Army Staff Commits to Assisting Wounded Soldiers

Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to providing comprehensive care for soldiers wounded in action, assuring them that their sacrifices for the nation will always be honoured.

Maj.-Gen. Isah Abdullahi, Chief of Administration at Army Headquarters, conveyed the Army chief’s message during a working visit to the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna on Sunday.

Abdullahi explained that the visit was part of an ongoing assessment of the hospital, a flagship medical facility of the Nigerian Army, to evaluate its operations and the condition of soldiers receiving treatment from current military operations.

“Last week, following his assumption of duty, the Army Chief visited this hospital to assess operations and meet our wounded soldiers,” Abdullahi said. “I was subsequently directed to follow up, evaluate the challenges faced by the hospital, and ensure these issues are addressed to enhance the facility.”

During the visit, Abdullahi toured the hospital and interacted with the wounded soldiers, noting the significant improvements and transformation the facility has undergone.

He highlighted that the hospital not only serves military personnel but also civilians from Kaduna and surrounding areas, establishing it as a centre of excellence in medical care.

“Much progress has been made, and we hope this visit will further support the development of the facility. Our aim is to ensure the hospital continues to meet the healthcare needs of both military personnel and civilians,” he added.

Abdullahi also reassured the wounded soldiers that their service and sacrifices were highly valued, emphasizing that the Army remains dedicated to providing them with the best possible care and facilitating their swift return to duty.

The Chief of Administration conducted the facility tour alongside the Chief Medical Director, Brig.-Gen. Godwin Ogoh, and other senior hospital officers, engaging directly with the soldiers to assess their welfare and the hospital’s capabilities.
