NRC denounces vandalism of signaling equipment along Agege–Agbado rail line

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has raised concern over a fresh case of vandalism on the Lagos–Ibadan Standard Gauge rail line, specifically between the Agege and Agbado stations.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos, the Chief Public Relations Officer, Mr. Callistus Unyimadu, said unknown individuals tampered with vital signaling components along the route.

According to the statement, the vandalised items include signal machine cap protectors and connection cables on Switch Point Machine No. 2, discovered during a routine inspection on Monday, October 6.

Unyimadu condemned the act, describing it as sabotage against critical national infrastructure.

He explained that such incidents disrupt rail operations and pose serious safety risks to passengers and staff.

Despite the damage, he assured that train services along the Lagos–Ibadan corridor remain unaffected and continue without interruption.

The NRC confirmed that security agencies have been alerted to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Unyimadu reaffirmed the Corporation’s commitment to maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient train operations across the country and urged residents near railway corridors to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activities around rail facilities.
