Former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Geoffrey Nnaji, has clarified that his resignation from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet was a voluntary decision made in good faith and not an admission of wrongdoing.
Nnaji, who was appointed in August 2023, announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the President, in which he expressed gratitude for the privilege to serve the nation.
This was contained in a statement personally signed by the former minister in Abuja.
He explained that his decision followed weeks of politically motivated allegations and negative media reports linking him to certificate forgery.
According to Nnaji, the campaign of falsehood and malicious attacks across various media platforms had become a major distraction from his official duties and public service responsibilities.
He stated that he had spent over five decades building a reputation rooted in integrity, diligence, and service to humanity.
The former minister said he would not allow unfounded claims to undermine the progress of the current administration or distract from its national development goals.
“My decision to step aside is not a confession of guilt but a principled step to uphold the sanctity of due process and allow the judiciary to carry out its responsibilities without interference,” he said.
Nnaji reaffirmed confidence in the rule of law and expressed belief that truth and justice would ultimately prevail.
