Police Foil Murder, Armed Robbery, Nab 10 Suspects in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has announced the arrest of ten suspects linked to an armed robbery and attempted murder incident in the Igoba Community, located within the Akure North Local Government Area.The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, confirmed the development in a statement released on Saturday in Akure. He stated that the arrests followed a violent attack on October 2nd at approximately 11:30 a.m., targeting a community member, Mrs. Ogunoye Oluomo, and an attempted assassination of the community’s traditional ruler, Oba Adinlewa John.According to the spokesperson, a group of armed assailants, equipped with firearms, knives, charms, and other dangerous weapons, invaded the community with the intent to cause havoc. During the attack, Mrs. Oluomo was viciously assaulted, injured, and robbed of her possessions. The perpetrators then proceeded to the palace in an attempt to assassinate the monarch, who narrowly escaped the assault.Upon receiving a distress call, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, immediately deployed operational assets to the area. An operation led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations resulted in the apprehension of the ten suspects, who have since confessed to their roles in the incident.Items recovered from the suspects include two locally-fabricated pistols, one single-barrel gun, several rounds of live ammunition, assorted charms, knives, machetes, and other dangerous weapons.The injured victim is currently receiving medical treatment and is reported to be responding positively. Police efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects who fled the scene, and normalcy has been restored to the community with reinforced security presence.The Commissioner of Police has reassured the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, issuing a stern warning to criminal elements that Ondo State will not tolerate lawlessness. Law-abiding citizens were encouraged to go about their lawful activities without fear.
