Sultan Encourages NAF to Step Up Offensive Against Armed Gangs

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and other security agencies to intensify and sustain their offensives against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements threatening national peace.
He made the appeal on Tuesday in Sokoto while receiving Group Capt. Jane Gimo, the newly appointed Commander of the 119 Composite Group, during a courtesy visit.
The Sultan assured the NAF of the unwavering support of traditional institutions to ensure the success of ongoing operations and encouraged the commander to stay resolute in confronting the region’s growing security challenges.

Abubakar acknowledged that no society is without difficulties but stressed that more decisive actions are required to bring lasting stability to Sokoto and beyond.
He commended the Air Force for its significant contributions in combating banditry and other crimes while urging continued efforts to protect lives, safeguard livelihoods, and enable citizens to carry out their daily activities without fear.
According to him, traditional rulers remain key partners in ensuring peace and will continue to work hand-in-hand with security operatives to achieve sustainable safety across the country.

Earlier, Gimo explained that her visit was to seek the Sultan’s royal blessings and reinforce collaboration with the Sultanate Council, which plays a vital role in community engagement.
She assured that the Air Force would maintain swift and coordinated airstrikes as part of wider military operations to curb kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other violent crimes across the country.
The commander also revealed plans to relocate the 119 Composite Group to its permanent base along Airport Road in Sokoto to boost operational efficiency, strengthen air support, and enhance counter-banditry missions.
