The Kano State Police Command says it has made major strides in combating crime, arresting 105 suspects in connection with 30 serious cases and seizing a cache of weapons and illicit substances.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, revealed this during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Monday. He credited the successes to the command’s community-driven strategies and the ongoing Operation Kukan Kura, which focuses on proactive policing and early crime detection.
According to Bakori, the arrests cut across multiple offences: 17 suspects were linked to armed robbery, eight to drug trafficking, nine to vehicle theft, five to motorcycle theft, nine to burglary and theft, while 57 were identified as suspected street gang members.
Recovered items included three AK-47 rifles, three English-made pistols, three revolver pistols, a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, a dane gun, two homemade pistols, seven rounds of live ammunition and five empty shells. Officers also seized large quantities of narcotics, including 603 packets of Tramadol tablets (about 60,300 pills valued at ₦60.3 million) and six cartons of Pregabalin capsules (roughly 44,850 pills worth ₦22.4 million).
Bakori commended Kano residents for their cooperation, noting that community intelligence has been vital to recent breakthroughs. He reiterated the command’s dedication to protecting lives and property, enforcing law and order, and sustaining aggressive crime prevention measures.
He urged the public to continue sharing credible information with law enforcement to help curb criminal activity. “Our success depends on the trust and collaboration of the people we serve,” he said, pledging that the police will maintain strong partnerships with citizens and the media to keep Kano safe for everyone.
