Church Blesses Gudu Residents With Free Medical Outreacha

The Gudu branch of the Family Worship Centre in Abuja marked its fourth anniversary on Saturday by organizing a complimentary medical outreach program for local residents. The event also commemorated one year since the congregation relocated to its permanent site.

Pastor Steve Oricha, the Branch Pastor, informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the initiative was designed to cater to the “total man,” integrating healthcare services with welfare assistance. The outreach featured a pharmaceutical desk, laboratory tests, and dedicated dental and eye-care units. Following their medical consultations, participants were provided with food items, including rice, beans, and garri, to take home.

According to Pastor Oricha, the effort was motivated by a commitment to give back to the community and exemplify the love of Christ, extending to everyone regardless of their status, faith, or nationality. He noted that while the church has organized similar events in the past, this was the first held at its new permanent location.

The initiative was funded through contributions from congregation members, supported by a partnership with the Tibilon Healthcare Foundation, which supplied most of the pharmaceuticals and eye lenses at no cost.

Mr. Olugbenga Faleusi, Head of the Tibilon Healthcare Foundation, stated that the outreach aimed to encourage Nigerians to prioritize regular health screenings. He emphasized that free consultations, laboratory tests, and dental examinations can help improve lifestyles and strengthen the overall healthcare system.

Mr. Paul Salawu, the Care Group Coordinator of the church, explained that the program was intended to extend Christ’s love to those in need as a central part of the anniversary celebrations.

Beneficiaries of the outreach praised the initiative as timely, particularly given the rising cost of healthcare services. One recipient, Mrs. Gabriela Jack, noted that the free eye care saved her from significant expenses, while Miss Abigail Gebi appreciated the opportunity to access free medical diagnosis and treatment. Another beneficiary, Mr. James Thomson, who received dental care, urged other churches and public-spirited Nigerians to emulate the effort.

The event drew a large number of residents, including non-members of the church, who benefited from medical checks, free medication, and the distribution of foodstuffs.
