Rabbit Farming Offers Wealth Creation Opportunities, Says ARBADEF

The All Rabbit Breeders Development Forum (ARBADEF) has described rabbit farming as a growing pathway to wealth creation and improved livelihoods for Nigerians.

Speaking at a two-day capacity-building training in Abuja, Mrs. Lois Auta, FCT State Chairperson of ARBADEF, said the initiative, themed “Silent Wealth: Why Smart Nigerians Are Turning to Rabbit,” was designed to tackle food insecurity while empowering youths and families.

Auta noted that participants were trained to explore the rabbit farming value chain, exchange ideas, and build collaborations.

“With modern techniques and access to markets, rabbit farmers can generate substantial income, particularly in rural communities,” she said.

One of the facilitators, Mr. Ismail Yekini, an agribusiness expert from Niger State, said he currently manages over 1,500 rabbits and hopes to expand to 3,000 by year-end.

“Our goal is to train youths, women, and retirees to reduce unemployment and food insecurity while creating new income streams,” he explained.

Another trainer, Mr. Abdulrauf Olamilekan, a rabbit breeding and nutrition specialist, stressed the importance of equipping participants with practical skills.

“Each participant should understand the key pillars of successful rabbit farming to position themselves for long-term success,” he said, adding that his Body Breach Farm houses 200 rabbits.

A participant, Mr. Sego Agidion, described the training as an eye-opener.

“Rabbit farming is a silent, wealth-making business. With as little as ₦20,000, you can start with two rabbits and a cage. This training has motivated me to launch my own farm soon,” he said.
