Court Remands 2 Men Over Alleged Unlawful Possession of Firearms

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of two men, Olanrewaju Adio and Ayokunle Adeoti, over alleged unlawful possession of firearms and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

Adio, 43, and Adeoti, 42, both residents of Obantoko, Ogun State, were arraigned before Magistrate L.A. Owolabi on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, illegal possession of firearms, and disturbing public peace.

The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendants, along with others still at large, committed the offences on July 15 at Oke Ora, Kankan Nla Agboyi Estate, Irawo, Ikorodu. She said the men were found with a locally made cut-to-size single-barrel gun loaded with 28 live cartridges and a locally made revolver pistol, for which they could not provide a satisfactory explanation.

Ikhayere said the offences contravene Sections 168(d), 330(d), and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015. At the request of the police, Magistrate Owolabi ordered their remand in custody for 16 days to allow further investigation.

The magistrate, however, granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties in like sum, adding that the sureties must provide evidence of tax payment and proof of residence in Lagos State. The case was adjourned until October 2 for further hearing.
