The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, has expressed gratitude to the people of Anambra South Senatorial District and Onitsha North I State Constituency for the overwhelming support that secured victory for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the August 16 by-election.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dr. Emmanuel Nwachukwu of APGA won the Anambra South Senatorial seat with 90,408 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Chief Azuka Okwuosa, who polled 19,847 votes. In Onitsha North Constituency I, APGA’s Mrs. Ifeoma Ikpeazu-Azikiwe clinched victory with 7,774 votes, ahead of Mrs. Justina Azuka of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who secured 1,909 votes.
Speaking to journalists in Awka, Ibezim said the outcome of the election reaffirmed APGA’s position as more than just a political party but a movement deeply rooted in the hearts of Ndi Anambra, owing to its consistent performance since 2025.
He attributed the resounding victory to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s leadership, noting that his infrastructural strides, human capital development programmes, and people-centred policies inspired the electorate.
“Anambra people spoke loudly through their votes. They rewarded the governor for what he has done and also voted in anticipation of what he will still do. From Peter Obi to Willie Obiano and now Soludo, APGA has continued to deliver, and that is why our people massively supported the party in these by-elections,” he said.
Ibezim also commended security agencies for their professionalism, as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a credible election where the people’s votes truly counted.
“APGA had no reason to be aggressive; no football team winning 4-0 in a World Cup final will risk a red card at the closing minutes. The results show clearly who the people wanted and who attempted to subvert their will. INEC did a good job, and it inspires hope for better elections ahead,” he added.
The deputy governor further praised APGA supporters for turning out in large numbers, voting peacefully, and ensuring their mandate was protected.
