Nigerian Community in South Africa Seeks Support for Stranded Citizens

Nigerian community organisations in South Africa have appealed for immediate humanitarian support for vulnerable compatriots currently stranded in the country amid an ongoing evacuation process.

The appeal was jointly made by the Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) and the Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA) in a statement released by leaders of the Nigerian community.

According to the groups, the request for assistance became necessary as many affected Nigerians, including women, children and families, remain in temporary conditions while awaiting further evacuation arrangements.

The organisations called on Nigerians, community stakeholders and charitable groups across South Africa to provide support to those currently gathered at the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria.

They stressed the need for collective action and solidarity during the difficult period, urging members of the community to extend assistance wherever possible.

“At this critical moment, we call upon the Nigerian community to demonstrate the true spirit of unity, compassion, and collective responsibility.

“Any form of assistance, no matter how small, can make a meaningful difference in providing relief and restoring hope to those currently affected,” the statement said.

The groups encouraged individuals, businesses, community associations and organisations with the capacity to help to contribute to the humanitarian effort.

They noted that support could come in various forms, including food supplies, financial assistance, temporary welfare support, essential household items and other relief materials capable of easing the hardship being experienced by those affected.

The statement further emphasised the importance of standing together in times of need, regardless of personal differences or affiliations.

Community leaders expressed confidence that through cooperation and generosity, Nigerians in South Africa can help preserve the dignity of those facing difficult circumstances and provide much-needed relief while longer-term arrangements are being finalised.
