President Bola Tinubu has said that criminal hideouts within the Federal Capital Territory are gradually disappearing as improved infrastructure and governance begin to restore social life in the nation’s capital.
He made the remark on Friday during the inauguration of the Collector Road CN2 in the Katampe District of Abuja, where he was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Tinubu attributed the changes in the city to ongoing development efforts aimed at improving security, mobility and living conditions for residents.
He commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his role in advancing infrastructure projects and supporting the transformation of Abuja into a modern capital city.
According to him, the provision of road networks and solar powered street lighting has contributed to improved safety, especially in areas such as Katampe, where night time security has improved.
He stated that the return of social and economic activities in parts of the city reflected the impact of effective governance and sustained investment in infrastructure.
The President also noted that the newly inaugurated road connects Katampe and Mabushi districts to major transport corridors, easing movement within the city.
He described the project as part of the broader Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on national development through infrastructure renewal and urban improvement.
Tinubu added that the road project would help reduce traffic congestion, dust and poor road conditions that previously affected commuters in the area.
He further described infrastructure development as a symbol of hope and progress for citizens, noting that such projects demonstrate the capacity of government to deliver tangible benefits.
The President praised Wike’s performance in the FCT, recalling his track record of road rehabilitation and ongoing development projects since assuming office.
He commended the minister for his work on roads, water supply systems and judicial infrastructure, describing him as a results driven public official.
Tinubu said the transformation of Abuja under the current administration reflects a renewed commitment to rebuilding the capital and improving the quality of life for its residents.
The ceremony marked another milestone in ongoing efforts to expand infrastructure and strengthen security within the Federal Capital Territory.
