Abakaliki, June 15, 2026 – Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has applauded Rangers International FC of Enugu for clinching the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, describing the accomplishment as a significant milestone for the club and Nigerian football.
The former Abia State governor also challenged the newly crowned champions to channel their momentum toward achieving success in the CAF Champions League.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Kalu praised the club for its determination, discipline and consistency, which he said were instrumental in securing the league crown.
He also congratulated Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, the club’s management, technical crew, players and supporters for their collective contributions to the achievement.
According to him, the triumph reflects the rewards of strong leadership, commitment and resilience.
Kalu noted that Rangers, one of the country’s most celebrated football institutions, had once again demonstrated that strategic planning, dedication and adequate support remain vital ingredients for sporting success.
He said the latest feat should serve as a springboard for even greater accomplishments beyond Nigeria’s borders.
The senator urged the Enugu-based side to draw inspiration from Enyimba’s historic continental exploits in 2003 and 2004 by setting a target of winning the CAF Champions League.
He stressed that Nigerian clubs must strive to re-establish themselves among Africa’s elite football teams.
Reflecting on his tenure as governor of Abia State, Kalu recalled supporting Enyimba FC during one of the most successful periods in the club’s history, which yielded multiple domestic titles, two CAF Champions League trophies, a CAF Super Cup and the FA Cup.
He maintained that those achievements proved that Nigerian clubs possess the capacity to compete successfully against the continent’s best sides when provided with the right support and structure.
Kalu reiterated his commitment to sports development in Nigeria and Africa, emphasizing that clubs should aspire to excel both domestically and internationally.
He added that continental success would not only boost Nigeria’s football profile but also create opportunities for emerging talents and strengthen national pride.
Expressing confidence in Rangers’ ability to compete at the highest level, Kalu said the club has the quality, tradition and backing needed to represent the country effectively in Africa.
He encouraged the players and officials to remain focused on future challenges, expressing optimism that they could add continental honours to their recent domestic success.
