Kano, June 5, 2026 — Security operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State have successfully thwarted an attempted kidnapping and cattle rustling operation in Kiru Local Government Area, leading to the rescue of two abducted persons.
The development was disclosed in a statement released on Friday by the spokesperson of the NSCDC Kano State Command, SC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the incident occurred in Bakin Komau, located in the Dangora axis of Kiru LGA, where armed attackers reportedly ambushed a shepherd, causing severe injuries before abducting two individuals and attempting to make away with livestock.
The statement said NSCDC personnel stationed near the Dansoshiya Forest responded immediately after receiving an emergency alert and engaged the attackers in a gun battle.
“The suspects could not withstand the swift and coordinated response by the operatives. They abandoned the kidnapped victims and escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds,” the statement said.
It noted that the prompt intervention prevented the criminals from carrying out both the abduction and cattle theft.
The rescued victims were identified as Abubakar Saleh, 36, and Muhammad Inuwa Dille, 30. Both have since been reunited with their relatives.
The injured shepherd, Alhaji Saleh, 70, was also provided with urgent medical treatment following the attack.
The statement further explained that NSCDC personnel had been deployed to the area to secure an ongoing dam construction project and protect nearby grazing reserves as well as farming communities from criminal activities.
It reiterated the command’s resolve to continue protecting residents, critical infrastructure and public assets throughout the state.
The State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan-Agalama, also called on members of the public to support security agencies by sharing timely and credible intelligence that could help prevent criminal activities and enhance public safety.
