Lagos, June 2, 2026 — The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the deployment of adequate security personnel across strategic locations to ensure the peaceful conduct of a protest organised by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).
Teachers in Lagos joined a nationwide demonstration calling for the immediate release of abducted pupils, teachers and other victims of recent school kidnappings.
It was gathered that armed attackers on May 15 reportedly abducted about 40 pupils and seven teachers from schools in Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota, near Ogbomoso.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said tactical and operational units were strategically positioned along designated protest routes to maintain order.
According to her, the protest began before 9:00 a.m. at Ikeja Under Bridge, moved through Allen Junction, and concluded at the Lagos State House of Assembly in Alausa without any disruption.
She noted that the demonstration remained peaceful and orderly, with participants strictly adhering to approved routes and security guidelines.
“On arrival at the State House of Assembly, the protesters were received and addressed by the Speaker. They subsequently dispersed peacefully after the engagement,” she said.
Adebisi added that officers provided continuous escort and security coverage throughout the exercise to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
She explained that the deployment included personnel from Ikeja and Alausa divisions, the Rapid Response Squad, and the Lagos State Taskforce, alongside other tactical teams.
She further disclosed that operatives of the Eko Strike Force and other security units worked in coordination to ensure a smooth and incident-free protest.
According to her, the operation underscores the command’s commitment to maintaining public safety while respecting citizens’ right to peaceful assembly.
Adebisi also commended the coordination among security teams, noting that their synergy contributed to the peaceful and orderly conduct of the protest.
