Dutse, Jigawa State, May 31, 2026 The Jigawa State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its recent security operations, recovering a stolen vehicle, several livestock, motorcycles, and thousands of suspected illicit drugs across different parts of the state.
This was contained in a statement issued in Dutse on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan.
According to the statement, the recoveries were achieved through intelligence-driven operations and coordinated raids carried out by police operatives in collaboration with local vigilante and neighbourhood watch groups.
In one of the operations on May 15 in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, two suspects were arrested in connection with the theft of a Boxer motorcycle reportedly stolen from Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The suspects allegedly confessed to the crime, while efforts are ongoing to trace the rightful owner of the recovered motorcycle.
In another operation on May 19, operatives attached to Malam Madori Division recovered two motorcycles, one cow, and three sheep after pursuing suspected cattle rustlers. The suspects reportedly abandoned the items and fled into nearby bushes upon sighting security operatives.
The police also arrested a suspect for allegedly diverting a Toyota Hiace bus entrusted to him by his employer for an official trip to Kano State. The vehicle was later recovered following intelligence-led tracking by the command.
In a separate case, two individuals were apprehended after investigations revealed that a stolen motorcycle had its original colour altered in an attempt to conceal its identity.
Along the Kano–Maiduguri highway in Kiyawa Local Government Area, police intercepted a vehicle transporting four suspected stolen cows. Five suspects were arrested in connection with the incident, while the vehicle and livestock were recovered as exhibits.
Similarly, two other suspects were arrested over alleged cattle rustling, with two cows recovered from Shanwure village in Auyo Local Government Area.
The command also carried out raids on criminal hideouts and black spots across the state, leading to the recovery of 5,886 assorted suspected illicit drugs and ₦28,750 believed to be proceeds from drug-related activities. Several suspected drug dealers were also arrested during the operations.
Commenting on the developments, the Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna A. Yahaya, commended the officers involved as well as community members and vigilante groups for their support in tackling crime across the state.
He emphasized that the successes recorded highlight the importance of intelligence sharing and community cooperation in maintaining security, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property in Jigawa State.
All suspects, according to the police, will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
