The Accord Party has elected its National Secretary, Hon. Adebukola Ajaja, as the candidate for the Oyo South senatorial district ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ajaja was announced winner on Friday at the conclusion of the party’s senatorial and House of Representatives primaries held in Ibadan.
She secured a total of 10,675 votes, defeating her closest rivals, Oludare Owolabi, who polled 4,361 votes, and Musibau Taofeek, who scored 3,357 votes.
Party officials and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) supervised the conduct and collation of results across the various contests.
The results were formally declared by the state party secretary, Hon. Olayinka Dairo, who also announced other candidates for different senatorial districts.
According to him, Hon. Ademola Ojo emerged as the consensus candidate for Oyo North senatorial district, while Hon. Wale Ajani was adopted as the consensus candidate for Oyo Central.
In the House of Representatives primaries, Hon. Abidemi Ismail won the Ibadan North-East/South-East federal constituency with 4,079 votes.
For the Oluyole federal constituency, Hon. Ademola Oyepeji was selected as the consensus candidate after his opponent, Hon. Oyeleke Agbolahan, stepped down in his favour.
In the Lagelu/Akinyele constituency, Hon. Philip Olasupo secured 2,329 votes to defeat Hon. Kazeem Azeez, who polled 1,423 votes.
However, the party declared the Ona-Ara/Egbeda federal constituency election inconclusive after some individuals reportedly tampered with the result sheets.
Dairo described the conduct of the primaries as successful, noting that it reflected unity within the party ahead of the elections.
He added that the governorship primary, held earlier in the week, was conducted in the presence of INEC officials and had already been forwarded to the electoral body in Abuja.
He further confirmed that Hon. Olakunle Busari, popularly known as “Goodugoodu,” had been officially presented as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
In her reaction, Oyepeji expressed appreciation to her colleague, Agbolahan, for stepping down and supporting her candidacy, describing the gesture as one of unity and sportsmanship.
She expressed optimism about the party’s chances in the forthcoming elections, saying she remained confident of victory with collective support.
