Abuja, May 29, 2026 — Former presidential aspirant Patience Key has formally withdrawn her membership from the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), saying the party’s guiding principles no longer reflect her political beliefs.
Key confirmed her resignation in a letter dated May 27 and addressed to the PRP National Chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a copy of which was made available in Abuja.
She explained that she initially joined the party because of its ideology and commitment to values she deeply believed in at the time.
However, she said her experience over time revealed a widening gap between the party’s stated ideals and its actual practices.
According to her, a political organisation can only deliver meaningful progress when its leadership and members remain consistent with its mission and core principles.
Key said her decision to join the PRP in 2021 was driven by a desire to support ordinary citizens and contribute to national development.
She stated that she believes in accountability, transparency, service, and leadership that drives positive change.
She further noted that political success is not determined by a party’s size or history, but by disciplined, people-focused leadership and strategic organisation.
In her view, these goals can only be achieved in a political environment that promotes internal democracy, values members, and works collectively toward electoral success and national progress.
Key, who participated in two election cycles under the party—first as a presidential aspirant in 2023 and later as a governorship candidate in Edo in 2024—said she had closely observed the party’s internal operations.
She added that she invested significant time and resources into strengthening the party during her membership.
The former aspirant said she had taken a difficult but necessary decision to move on to a platform more aligned with her convictions, describing it as a step toward more meaningful service to the country.
She concluded by describing her time in the PRP as insightful and memorable, while confirming her immediate resignation and wishing the party and the nation well.
