In Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State, on May 27, 2026, the Grand Chief Imam of the town, Alhaji Abbas Abubakar Muhammad, has called on Muslim faithful to strengthen unity and avoid acts capable of causing division, saying it is essential for national progress and development.
He delivered the message during the Central Eid-el-Kabir sermon (khutbah) held on Wednesday, where he reflected on the spiritual lessons of the celebration.
According to him, Eid-el-Kabir serves as a reminder of unity and the importance of remaining steadfast on the path of Allah.
He noted that the community requires the combined efforts of all groups to thrive.
“Our town and society need the knowledge of scholars, the wisdom of elders, the strength of young people, and the active involvement of women,” he said.
“The younger generation must be guided by faith and good character so that we can build a stable and prosperous society.”
He further urged residents to promote sincerity, cooperation, and mutual advice in their relationships, stressing the need to avoid anything that could create disunity among citizens.
Muhammad also encouraged Muslims and other residents to support government efforts aimed at strengthening security across Ondo State and the country.
He described security as one of the greatest blessings from God, noting that without it, meaningful development cannot be achieved.
He prayed for divine intervention to restore peace and stability, while also calling on leaders and relevant authorities to carry out their duties effectively for the benefit of the people.
He emphasized that maintaining security is a collective responsibility that requires vigilance, cooperation, and respect for the law.
The cleric also commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for reopening the central mosque and the Eid prayer ground after years of closure following a crisis that led to their shutdown in October 2022.
