Security Guard in Hotel Arraigned Over Alleged Diesel Theft

A 65-year-old security guard, Akeem Hammed, was on Monday brought before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over allegations of stealing 25 litres of diesel.

Hammed, who is employed at a hotel located along Oni and Sons Ring Road in Ibadan, is facing a charge of theft. He denied the allegation when it was read to him in court.

According to the prosecution counsel, ASP Femi Omilana, the incident occurred on May 10 around 8 p.m. He told the court that the defendant also allegedly stole a laptop, power bank, iPhone charger, Bluetooth device, and a stapler, with the items valued at about N471,000, all belonging to the hotel.

The prosecutor said the offence is contrary to Section 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Magistrate Mrs. Adebola Adeola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in the same amount, and adjourned the matter until July 9 for further hearing.

The case was then stood down for continuation of proceedings.
