Jos, May 18, 2027 Retired Air Vice Marshal Paul Masiyer, an aspirant for the Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has rejected the outcome of the party’s primary election in the area.
His campaign organisation, through a statement issued on Monday in Jos by Danjuma Namang, dismissed the result announced by the party’s returning officer.
The returning officer, Sheldas Samuel, had earlier declared the incumbent lawmaker, Rep. Ishaya Lalu, winner of the exercise after reportedly polling 33,290 votes, while Masiyer came second with 2,115 votes.
However, Namang alleged that the primaries were not conducted in wards across Mangu and Bokkos local government areas, contrary to provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, the APC Constitution, and the party’s nomination guidelines.
He stated that party members, supporters and agents gathered peacefully at designated centres but did not witness the arrival of electoral officials or voting materials.
According to him, they waited for hours without any election taking place before dispersing in disappointment.
He described the announcement of results as unacceptable, insisting that declaring winners where no voting occurred undermines democratic principles and internal party fairness.
Namang maintained that the declared outcome does not reflect the will of APC members in the constituency.
He added that the process represented a distortion of democracy and a violation of the party’s internal procedures.
He further disclosed that the campaign organisation has already begun steps within the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms to challenge the outcome.
Namang assured supporters that the situation would be addressed through lawful channels and urged them to remain calm and peaceful.
He emphasised that democracy can only thrive where transparent, credible and fair processes are upheld within political parties.
