Kaduna, May 14, 2026 Authorities in Kaduna State have stepped up efforts to improve flood prevention and emergency preparedness through closer cooperation with development agencies, humanitarian groups and other critical stakeholders.
The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) disclosed this during a stakeholders’ engagement on flood preparedness and emergency response held in Kaduna.
Speaking at the meeting, KADSEMA Executive Secretary, Usman Mazadu, said the agency remained committed to strengthening partnerships with government institutions, humanitarian organisations and development partners to enhance emergency response operations.
He explained that the agency’s priority was to protect lives, safeguard property and support vulnerable communities through proactive planning and coordinated action.
Mazadu noted that the successes achieved by the agency in 2025 were largely driven by the continuous support and collaboration of stakeholders and partner organisations.
According to him, joint efforts by humanitarian actors played a vital role in ensuring the safety of communities and public infrastructure across the state.
He added that KADSEMA would continue to involve technical experts and professionals in efforts to improve disaster management and response systems.
The executive secretary also revealed that the agency had introduced several institutional reforms, policy measures and strategic frameworks designed to strengthen coordination during emergencies.
Mazadu said greater attention was now being given to prevention strategies and early warning systems instead of relying mainly on post-disaster interventions.
He identified the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Christian Aid among organisations assisting the state in developing disaster management policies and operational procedures.
According to him, the Kaduna State Government had also increased support for preparedness and coordination activities ahead of the 2026 rainy season.
He further urged residents and relevant stakeholders to take flood warnings seriously and adopt precautionary measures based on forecasts released by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency to reduce potential risks during the rainy season.
