The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Area Command, Idiroko, has intensified operations aimed at curbing smuggling activities and dismantling illegal trade networks along Nigeria’s border corridors.
The Area Comptroller, Mr Olukayode Afeni, disclosed this during a press briefing held on Wednesday in Idiroko.
Afeni said the command remained focused on securing national borders, protecting the economy and reducing illicit trade through strengthened surveillance and enhanced inter-agency cooperation.
He revealed that 73 seizures were recorded within 41 days as a result of intelligence-led enforcement operations.
The seized items, according to him, include 1,759 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice, 2,685 kegs of 25-litre vegetable oil, 14,550 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 216 cartons of 20kg Basmati rice and 66 bales of used clothing.
Others are 205 packs of footwear, 46 bags of foreign sugar, 77 cartons of Analgin injection, 16 cartons of organic honey, 50 cartons of expired seasoning cubes, 858 packs of macaroni, two sacks of spaghetti and six pangolins.
He stated that the total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the intercepted goods amounted to ₦6.77 billion.
Afeni reaffirmed that the command remains committed to protecting the nation’s economic interests and preventing illegal cross-border trade.
He also noted that the command generated ₦125.43 million for the Federation Account through baggage assessments and the auction of seized petroleum products.
According to him, the seizures were carried out at various locations across the state based on credible intelligence.
Afeni commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, for his continuous support and for providing an enabling environment that enhances operational efficiency.
He reiterated the command’s resolve to sustain its anti-smuggling campaign and strengthen border security operations across Ogun State.
