Police launch manhunt for suspected cult member, recover firearms in Delta State

Warri, Delta State, April 15, 2026 — Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have recovered a pump-action shotgun along with three live cartridges during an ongoing operation targeting suspected cult-related activities.

Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Warri, noting that the items were found abandoned in the Ekiugbo area of Ughelli.

He said the recovery was made on Monday by operatives of the Command’s Special Assignment Team following actionable intelligence.

According to him, the weapon is believed to be linked to a suspected cultist who is currently on the run.

The suspect reportedly fled and abandoned the firearm after realizing he was being tracked by security operatives.

Edafe added that the individual is suspected to have ties with the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known locally as “Aro Baggar.”

He explained that the breakthrough followed sustained investigations into cases involving conspiracy, cultism, and murder.

The recovered weapon is connected to an earlier incident in which three suspects were arrested, prosecuted, and remanded over the killing of one Alex Adanike, which occurred on January 15 in Ughelli.

Investigations reportedly revealed that the fleeing suspect had possession of the firearm before abandoning it during the police operation.

The police command said it is working alongside local vigilante groups to track down the suspect and gather further evidence as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle cult networks in the area.
