Keyamo Orders Hybrid Payment System at Airport Access Gates Nationwide

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has directed the introduction of a hybrid payment system at airport access gates across Nigeria.

This is contained in a statement issued by the minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood.

Keyamo gave the directive during a meeting with officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and senior officials of the ministry.

According to him, the directive followed the earlier suspension of the full cashless Access Gate Payment System ordered by President Bola Tinubu after it caused traffic gridlock at airport entrances.

He explained that the ministry had resolved to engage concessionaires to introduce a fully automated electronic system at airport access gates nationwide to eventually eliminate cash payments.

“In the meantime, a hybrid payment system that accommodates both cash and card payments will resume at all airport access gates with effect from Friday,” he said.

Keyamo added that motorists who already possess the FAAN Go Cashless Cards could continue using them until further notice.

He noted that other electronic payment options, including POS terminals and approved digital payment channels, would also remain available.

The minister urged members of the public and road users to obtain and use the FAAN Go Cashless Card while the authority works toward fully optimising the cashless payment system.

According to him, the directive restores the previous access gate payment arrangement while the ministry continues efforts to implement a fully automated electronic system at airports nationwide.
