Holders Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the UEFA Champions League last 16 after a 2-2 home draw with AS Monaco, securing a 5-4 aggregate victory.
Monaco took the lead on the stroke of halftime through Maghnes Akliouche, capitalising on sustained pressure. PSG responded in the 60th minute when Marquinhos found the equaliser, before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia put the hosts ahead six minutes later.
Despite being reduced to 10 men in the 58th minute after Coulibaly received a second yellow card for a late challenge on Achraf Hakimi, Monaco continued to push forward. Substitute Jordan Teze struck in stoppage time to level the match at 2-2, while Wout Faes missed a late header that could have forced extra time.
PSG will face either FC Barcelona or Chelsea FC in the next round in March, as they continue their European campaign.
The Ligue 1 encounter proved challenging for the Parisians. Monaco nearly opened the scoring inside 10 minutes when Akliouche set up Coulibaly, who missed from close range. Bradley Barcola struck the crossbar shortly before halftime, but Akliouche eventually put Monaco ahead in stoppage time.
Vitinha’s free kick led to PSG’s first goal, with Marquinhos converting from close range. PSG’s second came from a set piece, as Hakimi’s shot was parried into the path of Kvaratskhelia, who finished calmly.
Speaking after the match, PSG’s Desire Doue admitted the team felt pressure after Monaco’s late equaliser but praised their resilience in securing qualification.
Before kickoff, PSG supporters displayed a banner reading “Achraf Total Support” in reference to Hakimi. The Morocco international is facing an ongoing legal case and has denied the allegations against him.
