79-Year-Old Ondo Voter Calls for Action on Hunger, Insecurity

A 79-year-old voter in Ondo State has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intensify efforts to address the challenges of insecurity, hunger and poverty affecting many Nigerians.

The appeal was made by Mr Adetarami Igbekele shortly after he cast his vote at Polling Unit 5 in Ikoya/Igbinsi-Oloto Ward, Okitipupa Local Government Area, during the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election on Saturday.

Igbekele expressed concern over the security situation in parts of the country, saying many citizens now travel with fear because of the threat posed by criminal elements.

He also lamented the rising cost of living, noting that economic difficulties have left many households struggling to meet basic needs.

“We know that President Tinubu is making efforts to tackle insecurity, but I appeal to him to do more to protect lives and property across the country.

“Hunger and poverty are affecting many Nigerians. The government should introduce more targeted programmes to reduce hardship and improve food security,” he said.

The elderly voter added that he participated in the election to support Prof. Dayo Faduyile, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the by-election.

He also commended officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what he described as a smooth voting process and the consideration shown to elderly voters at the polling centre.

The Ondo South Senatorial District by-election is being held to fill the vacant seat created following the appointment of former senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
