Four men were brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State on Monday over the alleged theft of scaffolding and iron rods valued at ₦28 million.
The defendants — Olamide Waris, 24; Abdulbasit Sadiq, 26; Oloyede Oluwafemi, 23; and Precious Osunji, 33 — were charged with conspiracy, stealing and felony. They pleaded not guilty to all charges.
According to the prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, the accused persons and other suspects still at large allegedly committed the offences at Laralek Ultimate Limited in the Canaanland area of Ota.
The prosecution alleged that the defendants acted in concert with others to unlawfully take scaffolding and iron rods belonging to their employer, with the items estimated to be worth ₦28 million.
Adaraloye informed the court that the alleged offences are punishable under Sections 390, 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
In her ruling, Magistrate O.O. Fadairo granted each defendant bail in the sum of ₦2 million with one surety in the same amount.
She directed that the surety must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction, be gainfully employed and provide evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.
The matter was subsequently adjourned until June 19 for continuation of proceedings.
