A 30-year-old man, Maduabuchi Ali, was on Monday brought before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over allegations of stealing motor spare parts valued at N5.9 million.
Ali, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing charges of conspiracy and stealing. He pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Esther Adesulu, the alleged offence took place on May 16 at the Trade Fair Complex in Ojo, Lagos. She told the court that the defendant conspired with others who are still at large to steal automobile parts belonging to a complainant, Linus Akpachukwu.
The items reportedly taken include five motor control arms, two steering racks, seven power steering pumps and air-conditioning compressors.
She said the offences contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mrs. O.M. Ogun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to May 26 for mention.
