The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has prosecuted 40 motorists before a mobile court over different traffic violations in the Itori area.
The development was disclosed by the FRSC Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Odunsi Afolabi, in a statement released to journalists on Friday in Abeokuta.
Afolabi explained that the Ogun Command of the corps organised the second phase of its mobile court session at the Itori Unit Command, which resulted in the conviction of 20 motorists for various traffic offences.
According to him, the court proceedings were presided over by Chief Magistrate O. T. Odunsaya, during which the offenders were tried and found guilty of the violations brought against them.
He noted that none of the offenders was discharged during the exercise.
“A total of 40 offences were recorded, out of which 39 attracted different monetary penalties, while no offender was given a jail sentence,” he said.
Afolabi stated that the enforcement exercise targeted major safety breaches such as violations involving speed limit devices, overloading, failure to use seat belts and absence of valid driver’s licences.
Other offences included defective tyres, expired vehicle licences, improper number plates, poor vehicle maintenance and related traffic infractions.
The exercise formed part of the FRSC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen compliance with road safety regulations across the state.
The Ogun Sector Commander of the corps, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, who addressed participants during the session, said the mobile court initiative remained a key strategy in the command’s enforcement operations.
Fasakin explained that the initiative helps increase visibility of road safety enforcement while promoting strict adherence to traffic laws in order to reduce road crashes across major routes in the state.
He also praised the orderly conduct of the court proceedings and noted that adequate security was provided by armed personnel throughout the exercise.
The sector commander advised motorists to always drive responsibly and ensure their vehicles are properly documented to avoid accidents and unnecessary loss of lives.
The FRSC reiterated that such enforcement actions are intended to discourage reckless driving and reaffirm the agency’s resolve to bring offenders who endanger road users to justice.
