Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Thursday commissioned new roads and water projects in Akure as part of activities marking the first anniversary of his administration.
Among the projects inaugurated were the Igoba Township Road and the Alagbaka Extension Road, key infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving connectivity and enhancing urban living.
The governor described the milestone as both joyful and symbolic, highlighting the importance of these projects in linking communities, facilitating commerce, and improving the daily lives of residents.
He noted that the Igoba Township Road serves as a model of his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, supporting trade, mobility, and socio-economic growth across the metropolis.
“These projects are vital for connecting communities, boosting local trade, and delivering tangible benefits to our people,” Aiyedatiwa said.
Reflecting on his first year in office, the governor said his administration had made significant progress across education, healthcare, agriculture, security, and other key sectors.
“Farmers are empowered, small businesses supported, and essential infrastructure enhanced, creating a strong foundation for sustainable development,” he added.
Regarding the Alagbaka Extension Road, he emphasized its strategic role in improving traffic flow, enhancing connectivity, and providing an alternative route to Akure Airport, noting that the road was constructed according to engineering best practices for durability.
Community leaders also praised the projects. The Obaloogun of Igoba, Oba John Adeniyi Adinlewa, commended the governor for fulfilling his promise on the Igoba road, while the Chairman of the Alagbaka Extension Landlords Association, Mr Fred Ojo, highlighted the project’s role in transforming the area into a more functional and accessible community.
The Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Abiola Olawoye, affirmed that the governor had delivered on his commitment to prioritise infrastructure, particularly road development.
The new roads and water projects are expected to enhance connectivity, improve local commerce, and provide lasting benefits to residents of Akure metropolis.
