Nigerian comedian confirms receipt of $15,000 gift from Burna Boy

Popular Nigerian comedian Jephthah Bowoto, widely known as Akpororo, has confirmed that the widely discussed $15,000 gift he received from Afrobeats star Burna Boy is genuine, putting to rest claims that the viral moment was staged.

The comedian took to his social media platforms to share a video clip in which he appeared visibly emotional while displaying bundles of cash, describing the experience as overwhelming and unexpected.

In the footage, Akpororo expressed disbelief over the generous gesture, repeatedly asking what he had done to deserve such kindness and what might be expected of him in return.

He assured viewers that the clip was authentic, insisting that the moment was neither scripted nor generated by artificial intelligence.

“This is not AI,” he wrote, adding in a mix of humour and amazement that the singer’s generosity had left him completely stunned.

Akpororo, who is also a vocalist and actor, rose to prominence after participating twice in AY’s Open Mic Challenge, where he finished second on his first attempt before emerging winner in the subsequent edition.

He gained further recognition in 2013 following a standout performance at Basketmouth’s Laff and Jam, which helped cement his status as one of Nigeria’s fast-rising comedy stars.

The unexpected cash gift has since sparked widespread reactions across social media, with fans celebrating the moment as another example of generosity within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
