17 Brigade Commander Assures Widows of Fallen Soldiers of Continued Welfare Support

The Commander of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Katsina, Brig.-Gen. Ishaya Ibrahim, has assured widows of fallen soldiers of the brigade’s unwavering commitment to their welfare and that of their children.

Ibrahim gave the assurance while receiving widows of deceased Nigerian Army personnel residing at Natsinta Cantonment, Katsina, during a courtesy visit on Friday.

The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of the brigade, Capt. Abayomi Adisa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Katsina.

According to the statement, the commander emphasised that the sacrifices made by the late soldiers in defence of the nation would never be forgotten, stressing that the brigade considers the wellbeing of their families a top priority.

He assured the delegation that the brigade would continue to implement measures aimed at improving their welfare and supporting their children’s future, in line with the Army’s commitment to honouring fallen heroes.

The commander further reaffirmed the Army’s resolve to stand by the families of deceased personnel, noting that their sacrifices remain a source of pride and inspiration to serving members.

Adisa said the visit reinforced the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to strengthen support systems for widows and families of fallen soldiers, while promoting unity and mutual understanding.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mrs. Hauwa Mohammed appealed to the brigade commander to sustain and expand ongoing welfare interventions designed to support widows and their children.

She said that beyond raising their children into responsible members of society, the widows depend on continued institutional support, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare and general wellbeing.

Mohammed also reaffirmed the widows’ loyalty and appreciation to the Army leadership under the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for sustaining welfare programmes for families of deceased personnel.

She specifically commended the Nigerian Army Education Sponsorship Programme, describing it as a vital initiative that has helped ease the burden on widows by providing educational opportunities for their children.

The widows expressed gratitude to the Army for its continued commitment to ensuring that families of fallen heroes are not abandoned, noting that such support has provided hope and stability despite their loss.
