Buni Presents ₦30m to Teen Winners of International English, Debate Events

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has announced a ₦30 million reward for three teenage students who excelled at an international English language and debate competition held in the United Kingdom.

The beneficiaries—Nafisa Abdullahi, Ruqayya Fema and Hadiza Kalli—are students of Nigeria Tulip International College, Mamudo, in Yobe State.

Governor Buni made the announcement on Thursday in Damaturu, where he also approved full scholarships for the students to pursue tertiary education.

He described their achievement as a remarkable milestone that has elevated the image of both Yobe State and Nigeria on the global stage.

“These achievements make us proud and clearly demonstrate the value of sustained investment in education,” the governor said.

Buni disclosed that the state government commits about ₦2.6 billion annually to the education of 890 students at the college, which was established and funded by the state but is currently managed by Turkish partners.

He explained that the administration remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote academic excellence and global competitiveness among young learners.

The students emerged overall winners in English language and debate at the 2025 Teen Eagle Global Finals in London, outperforming about 20,000 contestants from 69 countries during the competition held in August 2025.
