Education Boost as Katsina Govt Inaugurates EU-Assisted School in Daga

Katsina State Government has officially opened a renovated public primary school in Daga community, Jibia Local Government Area, in a bid to enhance education and community development.

The ceremony, held on Tuesday in Daga village, highlighted ongoing efforts to foster learning, peace, and resilience in areas affected by conflict.

The school rehabilitation was carried out under the Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response and Resilience (CPCRR) Programme, funded by the European Union.

Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal-Jobe noted that the initiative is one of 26 projects launched under the Conflict Mitigation and Community Reconstruction framework in 2025.

Represented by Deputy Chief of Staff Mukhtar Aliyu-Saulawa, he stated that 25 projects had already been completed across the state, with the Daga school marking the final intervention under the programme.

He emphasized that community ownership of the school is essential for its sustainability and urged parents and guardians to prioritize education, describing it as the foundation for long-term development and lasting peace.

Lawal-Jobe added that similar initiatives had been executed in other local government areas including Jibia, Safana, Danmusa, Kankara, Sabuwa, Faskari, and Dandume.

The interventions encompassed classrooms, potable water facilities, solar power systems, veterinary services, and other essential infrastructure.

Senior Programme Manager at Mercy Corps, Philip Ikita, explained that the CPCRR Programme continues the organization’s peacebuilding efforts, addressing the root causes of conflict.

He said the initiative currently supports 48 communities across Katsina and Zamfara states, strengthening social cohesion, resilience, and socio-economic recovery.

Implemented in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Centre for Democracy and Development, the project aims to create lasting positive impacts on education and community stability in the region.
