The Katsina State Government has refuted reports circulating on social media claiming that more than 60 per cent of secondary schools in the state have been shut down due to insecurity.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education described the reports as inaccurate and misleading, insisting they do not reflect the current situation in the state’s education sector.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Sani Danjuma-Suleiman, clarified that only two secondary schools were officially closed as a result of security challenges. The affected schools are Government Day Secondary School, Shimfida, and Government Day Secondary School, Gangara, both located in Jibia Local Government Area.
He further explained that some schools mentioned in the reports were not closed but temporarily relocated as part of a new government policy aimed at improving boarding school management.
According to the statement, Government Girls’ Unity College, Jibia, Government Girls’ Secondary School Shena, Government Girls’ Secondary School Rimaye, and Government Girls’ Secondary School Dutsin-Safe were relocated to the Women Technical College (W.T.C.), Katsina.
The spokesperson urged members of the public to ignore what he described as false and unfounded claims being circulated online.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding students and staff while ensuring uninterrupted access to quality education across the state.
“The ministry remains dedicated to providing a safe, stable and conducive learning environment for all learners in Katsina State,” he added.
