Customs, NDLEA Seize 347.5kg of Cannabis Hidden in Imported Vehicle at Apapa Port

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, working jointly with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has intercepted a large shipment of cannabis weighing 347.5 kilogrammes at the Apapa Port in Lagos.

The illicit drugs, popularly known as Canadian Loud, were discovered concealed inside an imported Toyota Sienna vehicle that formed part of a four-vehicle consignment cleared through the port.

Confirming the seizure, the Customs Area Controller of the Apapa Command, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, said the drugs were uncovered during an intelligence-led cargo inspection carried out by officers of both agencies.

According to Oshoba, the cannabis was packed in 13 bags carefully hidden within the vehicle. Ten of the bags weighed 25 kilogrammes each, while the remaining three weighed 29kg, 34kg and 34.5kg respectively, bringing the total weight to 347.5kg.

He noted that the operation represents the fourth major drug interception jointly executed by Customs and the NDLEA at the Apapa Port within the past two months, underscoring the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration.

The Comptroller reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance stance on the trafficking of prohibited substances, warning that criminal networks would continue to face stiff resistance at the port.

“No importer or exporter should expect to bypass our checks. Every cargo passing through Apapa Port will be thoroughly examined,” Oshoba said.

The seizure came shortly after Oshoba received a Certificate of Merit from the World Customs Organisation in recognition of his dedication to border security and public safety.

Following established procedures, the seized drugs were handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution.

Oshoba added that while the command remains committed to facilitating legitimate trade, it will continue to intensify efforts to block all forms of illicit activity in line with national security objectives.
