President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries.
The visit, according to a statement issued on Sunday by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, is aimed at deepening cooperation between Nigeria and Türkiye in areas such as security, education, social development, innovation and aviation.
During the visit, President Tinubu and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will hold strategic political and diplomatic discussions on shared interests, including finance, communications, trade and investment.
The programme will feature meetings between senior government officials of both countries, as well as the signing of several memoranda of understanding in key sectors. The agreements are expected to cover scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military cooperation and protocol matters.
A Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will also be held to connect investors from both countries and explore mutually beneficial opportunities.
President Erdogan previously paid an official visit to Nigeria from Oct. 19 to Oct. 20, 2021.
Members of President Tinubu’s delegation include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; Minister of Defence, retired Gen. Christopher Musa; Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson; and the Minister of Interior, Mr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Others are the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Amb. Mohammed Mohammed.
The President is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the visit.
