The Police Command in Oyo State has arrested seven suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a 20-year-old man, Seidu Amisu, at the Budo Fatti area of Ofiki Village, following a dispute over cattle rearing.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Ibadan.
Olayinka said three of the suspects initially engaged in an altercation with the deceased over cattle-related issues, which later escalated into a physical confrontation.
According to him, during the struggle, one of the suspects allegedly beat Amisu with a stick, leading to his death.
“Upon realising that the victim had died, the suspects, in an attempt to conceal the crime, allegedly enlisted the assistance of four other suspects and secretly buried the victim without the knowledge of his family or the police,” he said.
The police spokesperson explained that the Divisional Police Officer of Ago-Are Division, upon receiving a report of the incident, launched an intelligence-led investigation that resulted in the arrest of all seven suspects.
He added that the suspects, who are currently in custody, have confessed to the offence and are cooperating with investigators.
Olayinka said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Femi Haruna, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Homicide Section, for thorough and discreet investigation.
